[ARCHIVED] BOIL ORDER FOR A PORTION OF WINWOOD APARTMENTS

Website water boil advisory_250x210

Johnston Public Works reported today a contractor struck an eight-inch private water main. This was where construction was being conducted within Winwood Apartments – in the 6100 block of Meadow Crest Drive. The affected area is from Winwood Drive to Cedar Crest Drive. View map of the affected area.

Due to the potential for bacterial contamination and out of an abundance of caution, Johnston Public Works has recommended that customers boil water before using it for drinking or cooking or that an alternative source be used.

Johnston Public Works recommends not to drink the water without boiling it first. It is recommended to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes. If the water is colored, use an alternative source such as bottled water.

Once it is safe, the boil advisory will be lifted.
