The Compost It! program picks up yard waste throughout the Metro. Curbside collection through the Compost It! program starts for the season on April 5 and 6 in Johnston. The program accepts small twigs and branches, leaves and lawn clippings, as well as any garden vegetation. Just avoid dirt, mulch, rocks, and food waste!
There are a variety of ways you can get your yard waste collected curbside:
Tag it: Brush bundles and store-brand bags require a green Compost It! sticker for collection. Bundles can be no larger than four feet long by 18 inches in diameter.
Bag it: Put loose yard waste such as lawn clippings, leaves, and garden vegetation in Compost it! bags or store-brand bags with a green Compost It! sticker.
Wheel it: Throw everything in your Compost It! cart and take it to the curb before 6 a.m. on your regular collection day. If you’re wondering what all this cart business is about, see if it would be a good fit for you!
Retailers sell Compost It! bags and stickers throughout the Metro. For curbside collection, use Compost It! brand yard waste bags or stickers. When using store-brand bags a green Compost It! sticker must be added for collection.
Yard waste is also accepted year-round at Metro Park East or Metro Park West Landfills.
