Prior to construction commencing on the Johnston Town Center, 20 trees that needed to be removed to accommodate construction were harvested and the wood was milled for use in the new Johnston City Hall. The trees included Ash, Linden, Walnut, and Oak varieties. Beautiful wood and furniture were constructed from the trees. Several trees in good health and condition were able to be preserved on the site; in addition, more than 250 new trees are being planted in a sustainable variety of sizes and species most native species to Iowa.
