Clear debris_250X210

Do you have a storm drain near your business or home that looks like this? If so, please help us and clear the debris from the drain.

Storm drains can become clogged with excess leaves, tree branches and trash, leading to storm drain back-ups that flood city streets, your yard, and possibly your basement! Debris and contaminants that flow from the storm drain into our local streams eventually flow into nearby rivers. It may not seem like a big deal, but as a resident, you can do a lot to keep our waterways clean just by being sure to tidy your yard, dispose of trash properly, clean up after your dog, and encourage your neighbors to do the same. After a storm, a lot of storm drains become covered with leaves and small twigs.

Please do your part and help keep our waterways clean, and help water flow where it is supposed to.

Steps to keep your storm drain and waterways clean:

  • Do not blow lawn clippings into the street. Direct them onto your property so they can be added to your Compost It! bin or bag them for pickup.
  • Pick up after your pet! Stormwater will pick up the waste and wash it into the storm drain and nearby streams. Pet waste contains harmful bacteria that impacts stream wildlife and water quality.
  • Limit fertilizer applications.
  • Pick up trash in your neighborhood.
