The City of Johnston is a growing community, but community feedback is always needed to help guide businesses and residents’ wants and needs. City leaders and staff have been working on a draft comprehensive plan – the Thrive 2040 Plan. This plan will help shape the future growth, investment and reinvestment within our community.
"We encourage residents to get involved and provide feedback and input because that is what helps make Johnston a better community," said Community Development Director David Wilwerding. "We have worked hard to put together a draft Thrive 2040 Plan that meets the priorities that are important to our residents. As City staff, we ask businesses and residents to provide feedback on this plan before City Council adopts it."
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City offers three socially distant alternatives for residents to review, provide input, and discuss the draft Thrive 2040 Plan.
- Virtual Open House: The virtual open house is an opportunity to view short videos highlighting each chapter within the plan, download the draft plan and maps, and provide input by completing short survey questions. Visit www.cityofjohnston.com/VirtualOpenHouse.
- Live Virtual Chat: City staff and the consultant team will be available to participate in an online interactive question and answer session on Wednesday, August 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Drop-in anytime to discuss any aspect of the draft plan. The live chat will be held electronically on Zoom — visit www.cityofjohnston.com/thrive2040 for login information.
- Open House by Appointment: In-person discussions are available August 10 through August 21 between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Copies of the plan, and display boards will be available to review during the discussion. To schedule an appointment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 515-727-7778.
Each of these opportunities is an essential part of helping our community grow stronger – together.
