Firing range impact_250x210

The Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Facility’s construction and facilities office has previously posted signs on water entrances to Camp Dodge via Beaver Creek. They read, “Danger!!! Firing range impact area ahead do not proceed beyond this point.”

This is in accordance with the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s Natural Resource Commission’s Chapter 40, "Boating Speed and Distance Zoning," decision item change called "Beaver Creek Safety Zone." This item will come into effect on July 22, 2020.

The public would be prohibited from entering Camp Dodge via Beaver Creek. This restriction is necessary and is due to the danger posed to people using watercraft on Beaver Creek by military training exercises at Camp Dodge that could include live ammunition or explosives.

"We are excited to see so many residents and visitors making use of the water trail within our community," said Mayor Paula Dierenfeld. "We join with the Iowa National Guard in wanting to make sure paddlers on Beaver Creek are safe. As you enjoy the water trail, we would ask that you adhere to the warning signs posted by the City and Camp Dodge."

Camp Dodge has worked with the City of Johnston to ensure water users’ safety on Beaver Creek. A full map of access water points to beaver creek can be found here.
