[ARCHIVED] CITYWIDE CLEANUP SEPTEMBER 14 & 15

2020-Johnston-Square

The Citywide Cleanup event will be held on September 14 and 15, on your regular collection day. For residents with trash collection on Monday (west of NW 86th Street), the cleanup is September 14. For customers with trash collection on Tuesday (east of NW 86th Street), the cleanup is September 15.

The Citywide Cleanup event allows residents to dispose of large household items on their regular trash collection day at no additional charge. All smaller items must be placed in bags or boxes. Think of all the things you would like to get rid of during an intense cleaning: mattresses, couches, tables, chairs, windows, doors, books, old dishes, or box springs.

Regulations for cleanup:

  • Place your items on the curb by 6:00 a.m., depending upon which date is your designated trash collection day.
  • If you live in an apartment, condo, or townhome with private trash collection, you may not be a part of the Clean-up Event. Please contact your association or management to find out.
  • The total amount of debris on your curb must fit into the size of a pickup truck, roughly 8 ft x 5.5 ft x 3 ft. Extra debris will not be collected.
  • Items from large construction projects will not be picked up.

Accepted items

not accepted

Weight rule:
If two people can reasonably lift an accepted item, then it will be collected. Heavier items will not be collected. The average Johnston household pays around $6 per year (included in your monthly utility bill) for this Clean-up event, so take advantage of it!

Appliances: Purchase a large item sticker, follow directions on the sticker, or drop it off at the Metro Park East Landfill.
Hazardous Waste: Bring to Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-off, located at 1105 Prairie Drive SW, Bondurant, or Metro Northwest, located at 4105 SE Beisser Drive, Grimes.
Tires: Drop-off at Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-off, or Metro Park East Landfill.
