Throughout October, you may have noticed members of the Johnston-Grimes Fire Department proudly wearing pink shirts while answering calls for service or while out in the community. Members designed and sold shirts within the communities to increase breast cancer awareness. The funds raised were given to a local cancer patient.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Johnston-Grimes Firefighters presented a Grimes resident with a check for $1,500 dollars. This check will be used to help with medical expenses. She has been courageously battling cancer for the past 12-years. After learning of her story, including her most recent chemo and radiation treatments, committee members felt she was more than deserving of receiving this year's donation.
Thank you to community members who purchased a t-shirt or made a monetary donation allowing the department to help support a member of the community!
