With Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, it is time to set your clocks back one hour and replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke alarms.
The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department has a few tips to ensure your safety during Daylight Saving Time.
- After you replace your batteries, hit the test button to make sure it is working. If it is not, you may need a new smoke alarm.
- Be sure to also check the manufacture date on both your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Depending on the manufacture, alarms can last anywhere from five to ten years.
- If you are renting a house or apartment, the landlords should make sure the smoke alarms are working. However, as a renter, you should ensure they are working too. If you are a renter and you move into an unoccupied space, it is now your responsibility to maintain the smoke alarms.
