Established in 2006 by the American Planning Association, National Community Planning Month is celebrated each October as a way to highlight the role of planners and the importance of good planning in our communities. Planning for our future is essential for our communities to prosper and maintain balance and cohesiveness.
We specifically recognize the role our local citizen planners, including members of City Council, the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment have in the planning process. Also, we’d like to highlight the Thrive 2040 planning process currently underway, which will impact our community’s future for decades to come.
Watch the City’s publications and social media channels throughout October. We will be sharing a series of “Did You Know” videos highlighting many planning related efforts throughout the City. We will conclude with a groundbreaking celebration for the new Johnston Town Center at 1:00 p.m. on October 22nd, at Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road. This groundbreaking will kick-off the redevelopment of the area and will create the thriving commercial and entertainment district which has long been envisioned in many City plans over the years.
