[ARCHIVED] STORM DEBRIS CLEANUP SHOULD BE PLACED ON CURB FOR YARD WASTE COLLECTION

Storm Debris and limbs_250x250

The Johnston Parks and Public Works Departments are assessing the storm damage across the community, following a strong storm that passed through knocking down limbs and branches on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

City crews will be clearing debris from public property including areas in the right-of-way, parks and streets. The right-of-way is the area between the sidewalk and the street.

As residents begin cleaning up debris on their property, downed limbs and branches on private property will need to be bundled and placed in the Metro Waste Authority’s yard waste cart or biodegradable bags for normal yard waste collection.

  • Place at the curb on your regular garbage day (set at least 3 feet apart from garbage & recycling carts).
  • Bundles: no more than 18 inches in diameter & no more than four feet long
  • Bundles (& bags) – cannot exceed 40 lbs.

Residents can purchase bags & stickers in Johnston at City Hall and the following stores here in Johnston: Hy-Vee, Fareway, Price Chopper, & Johnston Hardware. A complete listing can be found on www.WhereItShouldGo.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Johnston City Hall at 515-278-2344 or visit Metro Waste Authority’s website for more information on how to bundle limbs and branches.
