The City of Johnston has hired Snyder and Associates to conduct a community wide Walkability Study that addresses overall connectivity of the sidewalk and trail network between neighborhoods, schools, parks, and business destinations to promote and allow for pedestrian and bicycle mobility within the community. General goals will be development of priority needs for short term and long term recommendations, best practices for new development areas, traffic safety and operations typical pedestrian crossing treatments, maintenance program considerations, and identification of Capital Improvement Program needs and other implementation strategies.

As part of this process, the City is actively soliciting public input to help identify areas of opportunities and areas of concern. To provide comments, please visit the Walkability Study Map Social Page, and provide comments directly on the interactive map by noting your favorite pedestrian routes, pedestrian destinations, gaps in pedestrian routes, problematic intersections, pedestrian safety hazards, beautification's needed and other points of interest. Your input through this portion of the process is requested to be submitted by June 18, 2018, so the data can be incorporated and addressed in the study.

Preliminary information on the Walkability Study will be presented to various City Boards and Commissions this summer, with a draft plan completed for review/comment by fall.
