The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) has a service change scheduled to go into effect on Sunday, Feb. 4, which includes changes for Local Route 5 in Johnston.
Based on input from residents in Johnston and DART riders, the map for Local Route 5 is being adjusted to operate on NW 70th Avenue instead of Morningside Drive. DART buses will travel north on Merle Hay Rd to NW 70th Avenue and then on Northglenn Drive to stops near the Johnston Public Library. Local Route 5 will also no longer pull into the Johnston City Hall parking lot on trips heading toward downtown Des Moines. Riders who use the Park & Ride lot at this location will need to board and alight Route 5 on either side of Merle Hay Road.
In addition to these map changes, DART also adjusted the schedule for Local Route 5 at the request of riders and Johnston residents. All trips will have time adjustments, but DART is also adding trips leaving downtown Des Moines for Johnston during the evening commute. Route 5 schedules, maps and full details on the other updates that are part of DART’s February service change are available here.
