On December 31, 2017, Councilmember’s Gerd Clabaugh and David Lindeman will leave their seat after serving a combined 20 years of service. They have served the city in many capacities and their leadership during their time on the Council was certainly recognized.
Gerd Clabaugh was elected to City Council in November 2005, and at the end of 2017 he will have served three terms. During his time, he has certainly seen the city expand. In 2005, the City’s population was 13,632. Today, the population is nearly double at 21,114.
Not only did Clabaugh enjoy serving the residents of Johnston, but he has enjoyed being a voice for Johnston residents on a variety of boards and commissions. He is past-Chairman of the Board of Directors for Metro Waste Authority, and currently serves as an ex-officio member of the Johnston Parks Board and the Economic Development Committee. Clabaugh has always been a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and accountability. His impact on shaping the city’s financial policy will continue for many years to come.
“Being able to serve the residents of Johnston for the last 12 years has been rewarding,” said Clabaugh. “During my time serving the residents of Johnston, I am proud of the relationships I have developed, the work I have contributed to and appreciate the good work of our city staff. I wish the new Council all the best in the future.”
David Lindeman was elected to City Council in November 2009, and at the end of 2017 he will have served two terms. Lindeman has also enjoyed serving the city in many capacities. He is a liaison to the Johnston Public Library and Board of Adjustment, and sits on the Public Works and HR/Finance Council Committees. He is the past Chair of the Central Iowa Drinking Water Commission. His passion and advocacy for regional water service has helped lay the groundwork for more efficient use of city resources not only for Johnston, but for many central Iowa communities.
During his eight years on Council, he has enjoyed watching the city grow and develop. Under his leadership, he has watched Terra Park grow to what it is today. “Being able to watch the community flourish is extremely rewarding,” said Lindeman. “I enjoy getting out and talking with residents about the positive changes they have seen within our community.”
