The Johnston Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department recently made changes on where apparatus is located within each of the three stations. Last summer, the Johnston and Grimes Fire Departments consolidated and are now operating as one department with three stations.
“These changes are instrumental in ensuring we are efficient in responding to emergency calls for service,” said Fire Chief Jim Clark. “Moving of apparatus from each of these stations increases our response time and ensures we are meeting the needs of the residents within our community.”
The changes have led to a mix of red and yellow fire apparatus in all stations. The Rescue Engine and Ladder Truck are now in the middle station on 62nd Avenue, which provides increased availability and quicker response times.
During a medical emergency, ambulances will first run out of station 37 at 200 S. James Street in Grimes or Station 39 at 6373 Merle Hay Road in Johnston. Station 38, located at 10225 NW 62nd Avenue will provide support with a Rescue Engine staffed with at least one Paramedic.
