DART Paratransit’s Bus Plus service, which is an ADA door-to-door accessible service for approved-eligible persons with a disability, will undergo several service changes impacting residents.
Bus Plus currently offers a Base Service Zone which, at minimum, covers a ¾-mile area in and around DART’s Fixed Route service with a cost of $3.50 per trip. As of Wednesday, November 1, DART will offer a new Bus Plus Premium Service Zone, which will extend the coverage area to encompass the remaining boundaries within Johnston not previously included for service, available at a premium fare of $30 per trip. Bus Plus riders can travel anywhere within the zone for all trips, excluding healthcare-related travel.
Beginning Wednesday, November 1, DART will also offer Bus Plus riders free access to ride Fixed Route services, which includes Local Routes, Express Routes, On Call and DART On Demand. Bus Plus riders will need to show a Bus Plus ID confirming their eligibility.
To aid Bus Plus riders in using these services, DART is offering several how-to-ride training events:
- Friday, Oct. 27 (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
- Monday, Nov. 13 (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
- DART Central Station (620 Cherry Street, Des Moines)
- Contact DART Customer Service at 515-283-8100.
The training will be held at the top of the hour and will last 45-60 minutes; please indicate which training date and time you would like to attend.
