CITY OF JOHNSTON RECEIVES COMMUNITY GRANT FOR SEWER EXTENSION PROJECT

CITY OF JOHNSTON IS A RECIPIENT FOR A CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED SPENDING GRANT (1)

The City of Johnston, Iowa has been designated as a recipient for a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) grant under the FY22 Consolidated Appropriations Act. This grant provides partial funding of $1,000,000 for expansions to the City of Johnston’s wastewater infrastructure.

A review of all potential environmental impacts was conducted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as part of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan process. A Finding of No Significant Impact was issued on April 12, 2023. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers also conducted a review of environmental impacts and determined a Section permit was not required in their May 9, 2022, determination letter. Neither agency identified any significant environmental impacts. Copies of these documents can be provided by contacting Matt Greiner at 515-278-0822 or via email.

After a thorough review of background documentation used to prepare the Finding of No Significant Impact, the U.S. EPA has determined the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and their environmental documents adequately evaluate the potential impacts of the proposed action. In accordance with 40 Code of Federal Regulations 6.200(d)(3), the EPA is incorporating these findings into its own Environmental Assessment.

Comments supporting or disagreeing with this decision may be submitted for consideration to Anthony Pham at pham.anthony@epa.gov or 913-551-7363 for the next 30 calendar days. Copies of EPA’s Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact are also available upon request.
