[ARCHIVED] HOLIDAY LIGHTS PROGRAM GRANTS VOUCHER VERSUS TICKET

Holiday Lights_250x210

The Johnston Police Department will be spreading holiday cheer again this year for motorists who get pulled over for equipment violations with their Holiday Lights Program. The department teamed up with Hilltop Tire Service and Orlando’s Automotive in Johnston to allow officers the option of providing motorists a voucher (up to $10) to get their taillight fixed as part of the program.

“The holiday season can be a busy, stressful and sometimes financially trying time of year,” said Sergeant Zach Grandon. “This program will hopefully help provide motorists a little less stress if they are pulled over. Instead of a traffic stop resulting in a warning or citation, they could receive a voucher. This annual program allows the police department and local businesses involved to spread some holiday cheer and help make motorists’ vehicles a little safer at the same time.”

Recipients can bring the voucher to one of the participating stores and get replacement bulbs installed.

The following businesses are participating in the Holiday Lights Program:

  • Hilltop Tire Service, 8277 Birchwood Court
  • Orlando’s Automotive, L.L.C., 4845 NW 59th Avenue, Suite B

Hilltop and Orlando’s would like to remind drivers to get their vehicles road-ready for the winter driving season, including those tires and check lights frequently with the winter months ahead. Drivers can check their headlights when they pull up behind another vehicle, or they can test their taillights when backing into a parking space with a wall behind them. This program is a win-win for everyone, and the officers can’t wait to spread a little holiday cheer!

The program will run through Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.
