UPDATE (4:32 p.m.) - The gas line near Lawson Elementary has been repaired and NW 62nd Avenue - east and westbound is now open.
There is a gas leak near Lawson Elementary, making it unsafe for students, buses, and parents to travel on NW 62nd Avenue. No one was harmed and the Johnston Community School District and City are taking all precautions to keep students, staff, bus drivers, and parents safe. Crews are on the scene to repair the leak. NW 62nd Avenue is closed from Merle Hay Road to NW 54th Court. The Johnston Police Department-Iowa
is also on scene to ensure the kids get safely to their destination for bus and parent pick-up.
Below is the information from the Johnston Community School District regarding dismissal.Parent Pick Up
Parents should enter Lawson via NW 54th Court and utilize the east side entrance (main front door) to pick up students. As usual, please have your parent pick-up number visible and ready as you pull up to the area. The only way to access the building at this time is through NW 54th Court.
Bus Pick Up
Buses will load students on 60th Ave, near the bike trail. Students will walk along the bike path with supervision where they will then safely load the buses on 60th Ave.
If there should be changes to tomorrow’s drop-off locations, the Johnston Community School District will communicate that later this evening.
