The Johnston Police Department, Mayor and City Council commended Officer Johnston with a letter of appreciation for his dedication to proactive police interventions during the City Council meeting on Monday, September 20.
Officer Johnston was recognized for his exceptional ability to remain focused on law enforcement's fundamental duties to safeguard lives and property, protect against violence or disorder, and respect the constitutional rights of all persons to liberty, equality and justice.
"This recognition is a true representation of the service-oriented members we have within our department that work at all hours of the day and night to keep our community safe," said Police Chief Dennis McDaniel. "Officer Johnston is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community while holding those accountable to public safety expectations. He is just one of many examples of why I am proud of our devoted members and the community we serve."
Officer Johnston is a highly motivated nighttime patrol officer dedicated to proactive criminal interdiction and safety. From July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, Officer Johnston completed 140 criminal charges for crimes within the city limits. His arrests included over 50 charges for illegal narcotics, 20 arrests for driving with a barred or suspended license, nine operating while intoxicated arrests, four illegal weapons arrests, and two eluding-related arrests.
