Adam Ostert joined the City of Johnston as the Building Official on Monday, Aug. 16. Adam has been with the City of Ames for the last 10 years as an inspector, plans examiner and most recently as the Assistant Building Official.

“I see the City of Johnston as an established community that is growing and redefining itself, which makes me excited to serve the residents,” said Adam Ostert, Building Official. “Becoming a building official has always been a goal for me since I began my career in code enforcement. This community provides all the necessary amenities for a busy lifestyle yet has ample opportunities to slow down and enjoy some relaxation.”

Prior to Ames, Adam spent 12 years as a master electrician. Adam has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State and currently resides in Madrid, where he serves on their Planning and Zoning Commission. “The City staff members that I have met have been very helpful and caring and I look forward to contributing to that atmosphere as a staff member,” said Ostert.

“I look forward to continuing to move this community forward and Adam’s past experience and expertise will help with that,” said David Wilwerding, Community Development Director. “His experience in Ames will allow him to easily transition into this new role while ensuring the building codes within our community are being met.”

When Adam isn’t at work, he enjoys time outdoors with his family, camping, hiking, or kayaking.
