Johnston residents and visitors will get to enjoy the rest of the summer splashing around the City’s new splash pad, which is set to open on Friday, July 23, 2021, at 10 a.m.
The splash pad is located in The Yard at the Johnston Town Center, 6245 Merle Hay Rd. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad features six above-ground water features and 21 inground features. In-ground LED lighting will light the water features during the evening hours. Two step pads activate the splash pad. Be sure to come back often as the Parks and Recreation staff will regularly change the timing and programming of the water features. While the kids are enjoying the splash pad, parents can enjoy the patio, which includes tables and benches and shade canopies.
Public restrooms in the adjacent concession building are still in the final stages of construction and are not yet open to the public. However, three public restrooms are available on the southeast corner of Johnston City Hall and they are open daily during the same hours as the splash pad. Ample parking is available immediately adjacent to and in the vicinity of the splash pad.
“This is a terrific area for family and friends to enjoy on hot summer days,” said Mayor Paula Dierenfeld. “The large canopy provides shade and seating for the parents to enjoy while watching their children play. The Johnston Town Center is such a spectacular area that allows families to gather and have fun. I can’t wait for our residents to enjoy this great space.”
During the winter months, the splash pad and patio area will be transformed into an ice rink.
