Primary and Special Election_250x210

There is one City Council seat up for election in June. Candidate paperwork was due to the Polk County Election Office on Friday, April 30, by 5:00 p.m. After an official review, four individuals successfully submitted their paperwork. Having more than two candidates means the City will hold a primary election on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, to determine which two candidates will be on the ballot for the special election being held on June 22, 2021. The nominees who will be on the primary ballot (listed in alphabetical order) are as follows:

  • Bryan Burkhardt
  • Jim Gorsche
  • Adam Haar
  • Brei Johnson

Primary election voting locations for all eligible residents of the City of Johnston:

  • Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road
  • Crown Point Community Center, 6300 Pioneer Parkway
  • Stoney Creek Hotel/Conference Center, 5291 Stoney Creek Court
  • Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road

The polling places will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, May 25, 2021, from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The special election, which will determine who fills the vacant seat, is Tuesday, June 22, 2021. The appointment will become effective after the Polk County Election Office has certified the election and the oath is taken by the newly elected person following the special election on June 22.
