NW 86th Street Side-Path Improvements

Project Update (3/15/21)
Tree removal and utility relocations will be done in March 2021. Grading will begin as early as possible pending thaw this spring. Once grading begins, construction will begin to shape the area for the trail. This will be dependent upon weather until completion. The trail is expected to be complete mid-summer, and final grading and seeding will last into early fall 2021.

What is the purpose of the project?
The 2018 Johnston Walkability Study identified a need for improved connectivity for pedestrians and bicycle users along the NW 86th Street corridor between NW 54th Avenue to NW 62nd Avenue. This project will construct a 10-foot wide recreational side-path along the east side of NW 86th Street to provide an important link between the northwest residential areas and the commercial destinations to the south. Additional benefits of the project include updates to the curb ramps and traffic signals at the NW 54th Avenue, Chamberry Boulevard, and Windsor Parkway intersections to provide for ADA compliant pedestrian crossings.
Will there be road closures or detours as part of this project?
No road closures are expected with this project. Temporary lane closures will be required along the
east side of NW 86th Street as well as at the side-road intersections in order to provide a safe environment for both the general public and workers during construction.
When will the project be finished?
Construction of this project is expected to begin in the Spring of 2021 and substantial completion of the project is expected by the end of November 2021. Permanent seeding may be completed in early 2022.
Will there be impact to private property with this project?
Property impacts are anticipated in order to construct and maintain this new infrastructure. Property owners will be contacted individually for discussions about impacts to their respective property.
Will construction impact access to local businesses?
Access will be maintained to all businesses during construction. There will be on-going coordination and communication with business owners throughout the project to address any needs or concerns.
