Who can have a library card?
Individuals of all ages who are residents of Johnston, residents of contracting communities, or residents of areas with libraries participating in Iowa’s Open Access program may apply for a library card.
The Library issues several types of cards:
- Standard Cards
- Provisional Cards
- Teacher Cards
- Computers Only Cards

Fees
Your library card is free and is renewable every two years if there are no outstanding fines or fees. At the time of your renewal, please bring your library card, a photo ID and proof of your current address. Acceptable proof of address include:
- Iowa driver's license
- Utility bill
- Imprinted checks
- Bank statement
Checking out items
You must have a valid library card to check out materials. When you check out, the staff will remind you of any outstanding delinquencies. You must be at least 18 years of age to check out audio/visual equipment.
