Johnston is working on opening their first dog park. The dog park will be located to the south of Ray Schleihs Park. The land was donated by Woda Cooper, who is currently constructing two residential projects in the Gateway District. Interurban trail users will soon be able to once again enjoy the connectivity from Johnston to Des Moines with the Trestle to Trestle bridge.
- Located south of Ray Schleihs Park along Johnston Drive and on land donated to the city by Wondo Cooper, who is constructing two residential projects adjacent to the dog park.
- This is Johnston's first dog park
- Construction will begin after the adjacent Woda Cooper project is complete.
- The dog park will be for large and small dogs. The large dogs will have 0.64-acres to enjoy and the small dogs will have 0.38-acres.
- Parking options are being reviewed by city staff.
