Special Operations

JGMFD Special Operations is tasked with providing ice rescue, water rescue, and swift water rescue to our district. Due to the low frequency and extremely hazardous nature of these operations, training is a major component of the focus of the special operations. Each member involved in special operations is required to maintain their capabilities by meeting specified training hours and demonstrating proficiency in their skills each year.

JGMFD water rescue responses to Saylorville Lake and the Des Moines River are coordinated responses with neighboring departments. This ensures adequate resources not only for the water rescue but also medical care and transport of the victims after they have been removed from danger.

JGMFD will also respond to requests for assistance made by neighboring departments to provide water and swift water rescue assistance as the primary or secondary watercraft.
