This project involves the complete reconstruction of NW 62nd Avenue from NW 59th Court east through NW 54th Court. This project is part of the city’s efforts to improve roadway safety, improve the deteriorating roadway surface and to improve overall drainage in the immediate vicinity of the project. The project will be built in three main construction stages with stage 1 beginning spring/early summer.
The project will consist of PCC Pavement, sidewalk and shared-use path, water-main improvements, storm sewer, sub-drains, sanitary sewer, sanitary manholes, storm sewer manholes and intakes, pavement markings, and surface restoration. Project Update (5/14/20)
The following is a brief summary of activities that have taken place since the last update and a brief look at what will be coming in the future. Stage 1 construction is on schedule to be completed by July 31, 2020.
TRAFFIC CONTROL | NW 62nd Avenue has been closed from east of NW 54th Court to west of Lawson Elementary School. The lane closures along Merle Hay Road will be lengthened south of NW 62nd Avenue near the Casey’s parking lot. Please continue to follow posted detours and signs for local business entrances.
UTILITY COORDINATION | MidAmerican Electric Company has begun relocating their facilities underground. They are currently working along NW 62nd Avenue. MidAmerican Gas Company has also begun work installing a new gas main along the north side of NW 62nd Avenue east of Merle Hay Road. Mediacom, Centurylink, and Windstream fiber relocations will begin relocating their utilities underground soon.
SANITARY SEWER AND WATER MAIN CONSTRUCTION | A majority of the water main has been installed along NW 62nd Avenue. The utility contractor is currently working on installing sanitary sewer along the south side of NW 62nd Avenue near Lawson Elementary school.
PCC PAVEMENT | Walgreens drive and the southbound lanes near Walgreens have been paved. The contractor will continue paving entrances, traffic lanes on Merle Hay Road, and the intersection of NW 59th Court and NW 62nd Avenue in the coming month.
