Johnston Police - Officer SpotlightThe Johnston Police Department is committed to community policing and building relationships with the Johnston residents they protect and serve. To help in this effort, the department will use the "Officer Spotlight" section to provide background information on the police officers serving the Johnston community. Check back often to learn more about your local police force. Question & Answer with: Sgt. Mike MartinHow long have you been a police officer? I have been an officer for 29 years. I worked for Decatur County as a Deputy/Investigator for 10 years. I have been with the Johnston Police Department for 19 years. What did you do before you became a police officer? I was a Sgt. in the US Army and also served as a Communications Specialist. Why did you choose to become a police officer? I wanted a job where I could be outdoors and I really enjoy interacting and working with different people. Also, I knew there would be different challenges every day at work. What do you like best about your profession? I like interacting with the public and dealing with all of the technological improvements which are assisting the police with crime solving. What do you like the least about your profession? I do not like domestic assault situations and traffic fatalities are always difficult to deal with. What do you enjoy doing when you are not on duty? I like boating at our lake home and spending as much time as possible with my grandchildren.
