  1. Fishing with a Firefighter

    October 28, 2017, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Terra Lake Park

    Join the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Terra Lake for a fishing event. This is the rescheduled date since the event was rained out on Oct. 7.

    Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the shelter on the northwest side of the lake. Attendees can fish from 9 to 11 a.m. and are encouraged to stay for lunch with the firefighters to watch the water rescue demonstration.There will also be a raffle prize drawing during lunch so be sure to pick up your raffle ticket when you register.

    The lake is stocked with large-mouth bass, channel catfish and bluegill and they are waiting for your bait! There will be fishing poles and tackle for those to use at the event. Residents under sixteen (16) years of age can fish without a license.

    Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon. Free will donations will be accepted by the Johnston Professional Fire Fighters Local 4835 and used to benefit the community.

  2. Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

    October 28, 2017, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Public Safety Building

    The Johnston Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration want to help make homes safe by destroying all expired or unused prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications during a community Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 28.

    Johnston police officers will be at the Public Safety Building, located at 6373 Merle Hay Road in Johnston on Saturday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to take possession of any expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The purpose of the drop off is to help residents remove potentially dangerous substances from their medicine cabinets by establishing a safe collection site. The service is free and anonymous, no questions will be asked.

    Any solid dosage form of pharmaceutical products such as tablets, capsules and patches will be accepted. Liquids, needles, sharps, inhalers, syringes, IV solutions and other bio-hazard materials will not be accepted.
