Welcome to Johnston Public Library
The Johnston Public Library Board of Trustees is composed of five residents of the city. Terms of said members shall be six years. The purposes of the library board are to set library policy, assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget, report to and cooperate with other public officials, boards and the community as a whole, develop long-range goals for the library and work for their achievement and employ the library director who is responsible for the library’s day-to-day operation. This term expires July 1, 2020.

Persons wishing to be considered to fill this position on the library board should send an application by Friday, May 30, 2014 to:

Enter to win a $30.00 gift card to a local business by submitting an original poem about kites.  No age limits or form limits.  Poems can be submitted to Cheryl Heid at Johnston Public Library at or brought in to the library.  Winner will be selected by Mayor Dierenfeld and prize will be awarded at 5:00 p.m. on May 3rd at Kites On The Green Festival. 

A FREE KITE MAKING WORKSHOP is planned for Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Johnston Public Library's Large Meeting Room.  Kids of all ages can come to the Johnston Public Library’s Large Meeting Room to learn how to make and fly kites. After your design is finished, head out to Johnston Commons to fly with the assistance of professional fliers.

Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at Johnston Commons, located near the Johnston Public Library.
Kites On The Green is the brainchild of Mayor Paula Dierenfeld who loved attending her hometown's kite festival as a child. Kites On The Green will be a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to come together for a family friendly festival as beautiful colors fill the Johnston sky.

Check-in:12:45 p.m. Rodeo:1:00 p.m.Learn rules of the road, helmet check, & obstacle course.
Family Trail Ride
Check-in between 12:45 and 1:45pm
Ride can begin anytime between 1 and 2pm
Starts at Pioneer parking lot & ends at Van Dee’s. All riders will get a special treat. Three-mile and four-mile routes.
