On Monday, August 10, the City of Johnston experienced a storm involving straight-line winds that caused widespread damage among the entire community.
To assist residents impacted by the storm, the city will provide a curbside collection of trees and branches and a drop-off location.
The curbside collection of storm-related trees and branches will begin on Monday, August 17. All material must be placed on the curb by 6:00 a.m. and meet the following guidelines:
- Branches and trees cannot exceed 18-inches in diameter or six feet in length
- To avoid damage, please do not place storm debris next to fire hydrants, street signs, or mailboxes.
If you wish you discard of your debris sooner, residents can bring branches and limbs damaged by the storm to Terra Park, 6400 Pioneer Parkway on Wednesday, August 12 through Friday, August 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The same guidelines apply for the drop-off as listed above.
As always, Johnston residents may dispose of yard waste such as leaves or small branches through the Metro Waste Authority Compost-It! Program. Compost is collected on regular garbage day by placing the material in a yard waste bag or bundling the materials in bundles, not exceeding 18-inches in diameter or four feet in length, and placing a yard waste sticker on the bundle.
