[ARCHIVED] TERRA LAKE TROUT RELEASE

The Johnston Parks Department and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be releasing 1,000 rainbow trout and five to ten broodstock trout into Terra Lake on Saturday, April 6. The broodstock trout will average between three to five pounds and the 1,000 trout will be around 10″ in length. The release will begin at 1:00 p.m.

“Releasing trout is a great way to introduce new anglers to the joys of fishing in our beautiful lake,” said Parks and Recreation Director John Schmitz. “We are certainly proud of the staple we have built within our community. We hope community members take advantage of this free event and enjoy lunch with their family while watching trout being released into the lake.”

This event is free, but anglers must be properly licensed, must have a trout stamp, and bring their own fishing equipment. The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10. Children age 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but their daily limit is one. However, children can buy a trout fee which will allow them to catch their own limit.

Johnston Parks Department thanks Hy-Vee for providing free hot dogs, chips and water for this event and Johnston Bait and Tackle for supplying the bait.
