[ARCHIVED] OFFICERS ISSUE HOLIDAY CHEER THROUGH HOLIDAY LIGHTS PROGRAM

The Johnston Police Department is looking to offer a little grace to motorists who get pulled over for equipment violations with its new Holiday Lights Program.

“We understand the holiday season for some is not only tight for time, but money as well,” said Community Affairs Officer Zach Grandon. “So, we are trying to add a little holiday cheer. Instead of a traffic stop resulting in a warning or citation, we are helping citizens repair their vehicle and bring it into compliance to ensure their safety and the safety of others while on the roadways. If an officer pulls you over within Johnston for a lighting violation between December 9 and January 9, he or she can offer the driver a voucher to get the light fixed for free if cash flow is a concern. This Holiday Lights Program is a way for drivers to have a positive interaction with the officers, help spread a little holiday cheer and get our local businesses involved within the community.”

The Johnston Police Department has teamed up with Car-X Tire & Auto and Hilltop Tire Service within Johnston to allow drivers to get their light fixed for free as part of the Holiday Lights Program. The vouchers are valued at $10 and are specific to each store participating. Officers will be issuing the vouchers December 9 through January 9. During this period, if you are pulled over by a Johnston officer and issued a warning for a burned-out tail light, headlight, or license plate light violation, you could receive a voucher. Recipients can bring the coupon into one of the participating stores and get replacement bulbs installed.

The following businesses are participating in the Holiday Lights Program:

  • Car-X Tire & Auto, 5730 Merle Hay Road
  • Hilltop Tire Service, 8277 Birchwood Court

Car-X and Hilltop would like to remind drivers to get their vehicles road-ready for the winter driving season and check their lights frequently with the winter months ahead. Drivers can check their headlights when they pull up behind another vehicle, or they can test their tail lights when backing into a parking space with a wall behind them. This program is a win-win for everyone, and the officers can’t wait to spread a little holiday cheer!
