[ARCHIVED] HEAVY RAIN LIKELY INTO NEXT WEEK

Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rainfall for the evening of Friday, Oct. 5 through Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Soils within Johnston are already saturated and Beaver Creek is already swollen. Additional heavy rains will likely lead to rapid runoff, causing the potential for flooding and closing of additional trails within our community.

Safety Reminders

During a flood, water levels and the rate the water is flowing can change quickly. Follow these tips:

  • Stay Informed: Listen to radio and television, including a weather radio.
  • Turn Around Don't Drown: It is never safe to drive or walk into flood water. Do not drive into flooded roadways or around barricades. Water may be deeper than it appears.
  • Practice Electrical Safety: Do not enter a basement or any room if water covers the electrical outlets or if cords are submerged. Stay out of water that may have electricity in it.

Residents who encounter a dangerous situation should call 911. For other reports, call the Johnston Police Department's non-emergency line at 515-278-2345.
