[ARCHIVED] IOWA SEVERE WEATHER WEEK PLANNED MARCH 26-30

Severe Weather Awareness Week

Severe Weather Awareness Week is scheduled for March 26-30, 2018 across Iowa as a precursor to the spring and summer severe weather. This week provides residents an opportunity to increase awareness before severe weather may approach the area where they live or may be traveling to. Topics the National Weather Service in Des Moines will cover includes severe thunderstorms, receiving warning information, tornadoes, family preparedness and flooding.

A statewide tornado drill will occur on Wednesday, March 28, beginning around 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Residents are encouraged to practice actions that would be taken in the event of a real weather-related emergency.

If severe weather occurs on the day of the drill, it will be moved to Thursday, March 29.
