The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department (JGMFD) welcomes its newest member, Tyler Schmeling. Prior to becoming a member of the JGMFD, Tyler was a member of the Public Works Department for the City of Des Moines and Pleasant Hill. He also served as a Firefighter and EMT with the City of Pleasant Hill Fire Department for three and a half years.

In addition to his employment with the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department, Tyler is an 11-year active member of the Iowa National Guard and serves as a Military Police Captain.

“I am excited to be a member of the JGMFD and work in a career that I have come to enjoy whole-heartedly,” said Tyler Schmeling. “This fire department is progressive and seeing the quality of members not only makes me proud to be here, but excited to be able to learn and grow from them as well.”

When Tyler is not working he enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and supporting Iowa Hawkeye Athletics.
