Andrew Winter (FF/PM) was recognized as the Peer Supporter of the Year by the Peer Support Foundation at their annual conference on Friday, September 23, 2022.

Andrew spearheaded the Peer Support Team for the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department. Originally starting as a 1-person team, Andrew has fielded numerous requests for members in need. Whether on or off duty, Andrew works to ensure members are checked on either with a phone call, text, or face-to-face meeting or has assisted several members in getting further mental health assistance.

Andrew recently worked diligently to get proactive annual mental health check-ins approved and set up for all department members. Showing confidence and support in the work Andrew has done, other departments without a formal program have reached out asking him to assist with their peer support needs, and it is a request he accepts without hesitation. His work to help his peers, both proactively and in times of crisis, is commendable and deserving of formal recognition.
