The Johnston Police Officers will look a little different during November and December. The department is sponsoring its sixth annual Beards Behind the Badge fundraising event to raise money for the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum.
"This is our sixth year of the campaign, and it is always a fun way to get officers and our community involved," said Sergeant Zach Grandon. "The involvement among our staff and the community has grown over the years. It's always fun to challenge each other within the department on the best beard as well. After all, there is a competition at the end of the month for a valued prize. It is an honor to give back to the Military Museum as these are our heroes who serve to ensure our freedom every day."
The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum's mission is to honor and depict the military experience of Iowa citizens in all wars, homeland defense and Iowa service. The Museum is located on the northeast side of the Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Training Center in Johnston.
Community members or businesses are welcome to donate. Checks can be mailed to the Johnston Police Department, Attn: Beards Behind the Badge, 6373 Merle Hay Rd., Johnston, IA 50131. Please make checks payable to the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum. All donations will be delivered to the Museum at their board meeting on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021.
