July is Park and Recreation month! We thank all of our full-time and part-time City of Johnston Parks & Recreation staff for the important work they do to make our community a great place to live, work and play!
The staff consists of parks grounds, forestry/beds/irrigation. The Park grounds crew maintains the parks and green space you see in the community, including the ice rinks in the winter. The forestry/beds/irrigation crew manages the irrigation on city property, maintains and plants new trees and maintains the plants on public property. They also empty 100 trash and doggie liter cans twice a week throughout the parks and public areas. These are emptied daily at Terra Park and City Hall.
During the summer months, the staff mows and maintains around 140 acres of green space. The employees on staff range from 17 years of experience to seven months. There are 10 full-time staff and four seasonal staff members.
A special thank you to the staff for everything they do for the Johnston community.
