On Tuesday, June 29, the Polk County Election Office certified the June 22, 2021 election results. The total number of votes cast was 2,018, which included polling location ballots and vote by mail ballots.
The City of Johnston voters elected new Council Member Bryan Burkhardt with 51 percent of the votes. He was officially sworn in on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, by Justin Allen. Bryan’s first meeting as a Council member was on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
“I have called Johnston 'home' since 1987, and I am excited to give back to a community that has given so much to me,” said Council Member Bryan Burkhardt. “As your council member, I look forward to representing everyone to ensure their voices are heard. As your elected leaders vote on agenda items, I will make informed and educated decisions to ensure we are making the right choices for the future of our community.”
Burkhardt is a graduate of Johnston High School and received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University. He is a professor and chair at Des Moines Area Community College.
