During the City Council meeting on Monday, May 17, Mayor Paula Dierenfeld signed a proclamation announcing the recognition of National Public Works Week from May 16 to 22.
The professional staff of the Johnston Public Works Department focuses on infrastructure, facilities, and services that are vital to public health, quality of life, and the well-being of our City's residents. Public Works staff are essential employees and have continued to work hard every day during the ongoing pandemic to keep our community safe and running smoothly.
Public Works is made up of six vital divisions that support our community and make Johnston a great place to live, work and play. These divisions include administration, streets, fleet services, traffic and facilities, water and wastewater and construction and stormwater observation.
This year's National Public Works Week is themed "Stronger Together" and is sponsored by the American Public Works Association. This designation is intended to highlight the role that public works plays in creating a great place to live. By working together, the impact community members and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified, resulting in accomplishing goals once thought unattainable.
