Get ready to embrace the beauty of fall and join us for an exciting event in the City of Johnston! With the cooler temperatures hinting at the arrival of fall, we are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded another grant from the Iowa DNR for trees. To make up for the loss of our tree canopy due to the Derecho and Emerald Ash Borer, we are organizing a fall tree planting event. 

This event will also include winterizing the trees we planted in the spring with the help of students through the Trees for Kids grant from the Iowa DNR. We invite the students who participated in the spring planting, as well as new participants, to join us on Saturday, September 30, at 9:00 a.m. at the Johnston Commons Shelter. The event will last approximately one hour, and we kindly ask you to bring gloves and avoid open-toed shoes. 

During the event, we will plant four additional trees, protect their trunks with wraps, and provide mulching and watering for the winter. There will also be a short program at the beginning of the event, where we will discuss the importance of proper tree planting, winterization techniques, and offer tips on corrective pruning if needed.
