Support the 50th Anniversary Celebration

Throughout 2019, the City of Johnston is celebrating 50 years a community.

The 50th-anniversary celebration has gotten off to a great start. The City Council resolution meeting and time capsule were well-attended events. The promotional events, including the Purple Party, Lion's Club Book Sale, and the Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast allowed residents to promote events and share the history of our community.

Over the next several month's activities specifically related to the 50th anniversary include four community picnics held at neighborhood parks, a tour of historical murals at Lawson Elementary School, a CultureALL event, fireworks at Green Days, tours of Camp Dodge and a Gala event.

These events are made possible by the dedicated volunteers working over the past to plan the celebration and the many individuals, groups, and businesses that have made in-kind contributions. Funds raised over the cost to conduct the celebration activities will be used for a legacy public art project at Terra Park and can be enjoyed by citizens for many years to come. Additional funds will be the placement of historical markers at various sites throughout the community.
Please consider supporting the 50th anniversary celebration activities by making a tax-deductible donation.

The Johnston City Council has agreed to match donated funds with a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $25,000. Donations can be made by using the following methods:
  • Online: for secure debit, credit card, and PayPal donations
  • In Person: Cash, check, debit and credit cards accepted during regular business hours at City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road or dropped off in the City's utility drop-off box at City hall, or by U.S. Mail (P.O. Box 410, Johnston, Iowa 50131). Please make checks payable to Thriving for 50 Years
  • Special Events: Official event volunteers will monitor all collections
Thank you for considering to support the Johnston 50th anniversary celebration.
