Family Fishing at Terra Lake

Come on out to Terra Lake for an evening of fishing basics and fishing. Participants will learn key fishing skills such as ethics, regulations, fish ID, knot tying, tackle assembly, casting, baiting, reeling and landing fish.

Please bring your own equipment if you have it. Limited fishing equipment may be available while supplies last. Check out fun learning stations and learn some fishing basics. For more information, contact Nate Osmundson, Johnston Parks and Recreation at email or 515-727-8091.

Bait will be provided to youth participants. Please bring your own equipment, if you have it. Limited fishing equipment may be available upon request while supplies last. Adult supervision is required at all times.

  • Time: 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.


  • Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. The event will only be canceled in the event of severe weather.
  • Arrive and check-in by 5:00 p.m.
  • 5:00-5:30 p.m. fishing basics instruction 
  • 5:30 p.m. Equipment checkout / fishing

Note: Participants borrowing equipment will need to provide an ID, keys, or similar item as collateral. Limited equipment is available.
