NW 62nd Avenue & Merle Hay Road Project

Project Description
This project involves the complete reconstruction of NW 62nd Avenue from NW 59th Court east through NW 54th Court. This project is part of the city’s efforts to improve roadway safety, improve the deteriorating roadway surface and to improve overall drainage in the immediate vicinity of the project. The project will be built in three main construction stages with stage 1 beginning spring/early summer.

The project will consist of PCC Pavement, sidewalk and shared-use path, water-main improvements, storm sewer, sub-drains, sanitary sewer, sanitary manholes, storm sewer manholes and intakes, pavement markings, and surface restoration.

Project Update (9/18/2020)
J&K has completed the water main installation and transferred services to the new main. Sanitary sewer has been installed, and J&K is conducting testing. Once all tests have passed, property owners will be moved to the new sanitary sewer system. J&K began installing storm sewer on Friday, Sept. 18, heading east along NW 62nd Avenue for Stage 2A. Stage 2A storm sewer is estimated to take a month.

NW 62nd Avenue west of Merle Hay Road will be graded and prepped on Saturday, Sept. 19. A modified sub-base will be installed Monday, Sept. 21 and trimmed Tuesday, Sept. 22. Paving will begin Wednesday, Sept. 23. The contractor will then pave Merle Hay Road southbound and finish the radius returns. The estimated completion is Friday, Oct. 2.

The contractor will then begin working along Merle Hay Road north of NW 62nd Avenue with grading and paving, which is estimated to take 4-6 weeks.

A contractor will begin grading NW 62nd Avenue behind the crews installing storm sewer. Once grading and rock are complete, the contractor can start paving this stretch of roadway. Stage 2A is estimated to be paved mid-to-late November.
